With “CLEAN UP” on the fast lane

The specialist in cut-to-size technology, Schelling Anlagenbau GmbH in Austria, always sets high standards for cutting aluminum and sandwich-metal plates in terms of cleanliness, yield and cut quality.

Optimization software combined with the most up to date inventory and rest part management systems allows for optimum plate yield. Small trims, however, present a challenge to the saw manufacturers. The so called “trim cut” should be as small as possible, but, to prevent damage to the machine, has to be wide enough to not fall into the saw blade gap between the machine tables.

The solution for this problem is called: Shave cut

The plate will be trimmed with only half of the saw blade width. Therefore, the saw blade only shaves 2-3 mm off the plate, thus, optimum material usage is achieved. The biggest disadvantage of this cutting mode is that most of the chips that are shaved off are scattered onto the machine table.  The only way a technical solution for the machine could be found was to solve the technological challenges of the saw blade and chip extraction.

Schelling developed a solution, together with the chip extraction specialist ERBO and the sawing technology expert TAC, creating a new feature called “CLEAN UP”. The pending patent for the chip evacuation system allows the removal of all chips during a shave cut.

Through the excellent collaboration of these three companies a new feature evolved and its success can be measured in real numbers. The improved material yield leads to noticeable cost savings which we would like the opportunity to share with you in a personal consultation.

The three companies will present this “team effort product”, for the first time, at the Aluminium Messe in Essen (Stand 1 G07, September 23-25, 2008).
